Prayagraj: In order to make CM Yogi’s goal of clean and healthy Maha Kumbh successful, UP Jal Nigam Urban Prayagraj is constructing 3 temporary STPs for Maha Kumbh. These STPs are being built with the help of Jal Nigam National Institute BARC at a cost of about 3.60 crores. These three STPs will dispose of all the waste and drain water of Maha Kumbh area. These STPs are based on BARC’s HGSBR technology which will realize the concept of clean Maha Kumbh.
HGSBR technology based STP
UP Jal Nigam Urban, Prayagraj is supplying water throughout Maha Kumbh as well as cleaning temporary toilets and treating dirty drain water. Ashutosh Yadav, Executive Engineer, UP Jal Nigam Urban, Prayagraj said that Jal Nigam is constructing 3 temporary STPs in Maha Kumbh with the help of Bhabha Atomic Research Center, BARC. These three STPs will treat the waste of crores of devotees coming during the Maha Kumbh and the water of dirty drains. These temporary STPs will work with BARC’s HGSBR technology. HGSBR is BARC’s hybrid granular SBR treatment technology which specifically treats domestic and industrial waste water.
What is HGSBR technology?
STPs based on HGSBR technology easily treat waste water and bring its BOD, COD level to less than 30. After which this treated water can be used for irrigation, mixing etc. or can be put into the river. Along with this, this technology also does biological treatment of waste water, which eliminates viruses and bacteria that grow in dirty water. For the first time in Maha Kumbh 2025, STP plants of this advanced technology are being installed.
Temporary STPs will be installed in Sector 9, 13 and 15
UP Jal Nigam Urban and national institution BARC are working together on this project. Jal Nigam Executive Engineer Ashutosh Yadav said that these 3 temporary STP plants are being constructed at a cost of about Rs 3.60 crore. These STPs will be installed in Sector 9, 13 and 15 of the Maha Kumbh Mela area, which will treat the water of toilets and drains of the entire fair area with a capacity of 500 KLD. Due to which the additional pressure of treatment of dirty water of Maha Kumbh will not fall on other STPs of the city.
After the fair ends, these STPs will be connected to the permanent drains of Prayagraj. He said that these three STPs will be established in the fair area by December 15 and will start functioning. These STPs will prove to be important in realizing CM Yogi’s vision of a clean and healthy Maha Kumbh.
